SURF'S UP DOWN SOUTH: KHAO LAK'S PEACEFUL SURF SCENE A PERFECT PLACE TO LEARN
As monsoon rains wash over southern Thailand, an exciting change comes over the pristine waters of Khao Lak. Known for amazing reef diving in the calmer months, the monsoon winds create perfect conditions for a different type of ocean sport: surfing.
Khao Lak is part of a growing surf scene on the Andaman coast. Nestled among national parks, the waters here benefit from environmental protection, meaning no pollution and no jet-ski jockeys jostling you off your board.
Here you'll find a wave for everyone, quite literally. Vast peaceful beaches stretch the length of this coastline with a range of different breaks yielding long, consistent waves. Take your pick of 'beginner-friendly' smaller swells if you're just learning the ropes, or tackle something bigger if you're feeling bold.
Our resident Dream-Maker at Casa de La Flora is in touch with local surfing experts and can arrange surfing lessons, equipment hire and surfing trips to suit your level and experience. (Or perhaps a luxury spa treatment if you'd rather relax and let the others ride the waves.)
STAY SUN SMART
Keeping refreshed while you play is easy when you follow these tips:
- Always use sun screen
- Drink plenty of water
